Govt employee submits fake 'no due certificate'

Imphal, February 20 2011:
A government employee allegedly submitted a fake "No Due Certificate" for electricity consumption amidst the drive against default power consumers and power thefts taken up by the Electricity Department.
The department alleged Y Kunjo Singh, a driver of the Education (school) Department of Quarter no.77 Type-II/B, Langol Housing Complex of submitting the fake "No Due Certificate" amounting to Rs 3000 through TR-5 leaf no.291198 dated 10/01/2011 .
Detecting the submission of fake certificate, Ng Subhaschandra Singh, Executive Engineer, Imphal Electrical Division no.II lodged a complaint with the Lamphel Police Station, an official source said.
Police registered a FIR case under section 419 (cheating) read with 460 of IPC on Friday.
There were no reports of arresting the employee till date.
Electricity Department authorities have been conductive drive against default power consumers and power thefts in Imphal East and West districts to minimize power loss.
The drive currently concentrating in Imphal east and west districts is targeting to expand across the state.
The department has taken up the drive with the objective of improving power supply couple with a notice of motion served by court on January 20 in response to a PIL filed in the Gauhati High Court.
The department expects to bring down power loss to about 40 percent against the current estimated loss due to power theft, technical and commercial factors at 75 to 80 percent, which is the highest power loss in the country.
