While keeping a vigil on the movement of anti-national elements and carriage of arms, ammunition and explosives, troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (S) on February 16 intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Tata 407) bearing registration No MN01/6920 driven by one T Baithe who was trying to speed past the check post and evade checking at permanent Vehicle Check Post at Bongyang, said PRO IGAR (S) in a release today.
It further mentioned that on checking the vehicle huge quantity of wild life products and drugs including two tiger skulls (in 4 pieces), two paws, 16 kg bones, 340 kg Pangolin shell and 91 deer antlers.
Speculating that the wild life products might have been for smuggling to China, the PRO also disclosed of 2.8 lakh number of actephide tablets costing Rs 4 lakhs in the Indian market, with the same item worth 3/4 times more in the international markets, were also recovered from the same vehicle.
The seized items have been handed over to the Customs Office at Pallel, the PRO informed which recounting that elephant tusks and 1320 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon were also confiscated at the Bongyang post on December 18, 2008 and January 25 this year respectively.
