Imphal, April 15 2011:
Lack of quality control and slow progress have been the alleged hallmarks of the developmental works taken up by the Government in areas falling within the jurisdiction of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Southern Area, Manipur.
Talking to The Sangai Express, secretary of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Southern Area, Manipur G Gaikhangam Bosco and vice convenor Hillary Meiringmei informed that the Union has conducted an extensive inspection tour of the developmental works taken by the Government within its area of jurisdiction.
During the course of the inspection, it was found that teachers in schools including Govt schools, Aided Schools and those under ADC have not been attending to their duties.
In most schools, substitute teachers are working on behalf of the regular teachers, the two student leaders informed, while announcing an immediate ban on employing substitute teachers in place of regular ones in all these schools.
They further informed that all the schools they have inspected lack proper infrastructures.
There are no adequate furniture and proper toilet facilities.
Rice under Mid-Day Meal scheme is not received in time.
Furthermore, there is no quality control in any developmental work taken up by the Government, whether it be construction of roads or community halls in the villages, the student leaders pointed out, while drawing the attention of the Government and its related authorities for doing the needful in this regard.
With regard to health care facilities, the student leaders said that Charoi Khullen Primary Health Centre has been the only health centre where the people of the surrounding 4/5 villages expect to get any medical assistance.
Unfortunately, there has been no proper building of the health centre.
There is also no doctor or nurses.
Taking into consideration of the difficulties being faced by the villages, the Government should make necessary measures for posting the required doctors and nurses at the health centre at the earliest possible, they demanded.
Pointing out an agreement signed with NHPC earlier, the student leaders said that all the churches and community halls located within 10 km radius of NHPC project are supposed to be provided electricity.
But the supply of electricity has been stopped for the last 4/5 years.
They also urged the Government to take up this matter with NHPC in the interest of the people living in remote areas.
