Workers and leaders of MPP today staged a sit-in protest today at Khurai Sajor Leikai on the last day of district level protest launched by the party against the July 23 Khwairamband Bazar shooting incident and demanding resignation of chief minister, O Ibobi.
The sit-in protest was organized by the MPP, Imphal East district.
It commenced from 11 am and went on till 4 pm.
During the protest, they demanded resignation of the chief minister at the earliest urging him not to kill people for the chief minister post, handing over of the case to CBI.
Taking part in the protest, MPP president, Dr Nimaichand Luwang said the party will start signature campaign to know whether people are in favour of O Ibobi as chief minister of state or not soon.
If majority of the people during the campaign sign against Ibobi, MPP will try its best effort to drag down from chief minister post.
He further said that still, Ibobi has time to tender resignation by his own will.It will be better to tender resignation.
No consideration in the congress till for ouster of Ibobi.
At this situation except the people's effort, he cannot be toppled from the post, he added.
Reiterating that MPP has been demanding handing over of the July 23, Khwairamband Bazar shooting incident, MPP will not retreat from protest against government till Ibobi resigned from chief ministership.
Ibobi cannot be remained in the post, he said adding that MPP will now start campaign for Ibobi ouster going village to village.
Nimaichand talking further to reporters alleged that the present killing spree and extortion carrying out in the state is the hidden policy of the Ibobi government and also blamed the CPI for remaining support to Ibobi even at this stage.
MPP advisor, Th Chaoba criticized the SFP government alleging that the Armed Forces Special Power Act, 1958 is misused by the government in the valley area by allowing police to use the power under the act in the name of counter insurgency operation.
During the regimes of eight chief ministers in the state no people killed in fake encounter but when Ibobi became the ninth chief minister, many women have been widowed owing the killing spree in fake encounters.Commenting on the CPI remaining support to the SPF government, Chaoba further said that as the party is observing with month long functions in remembrance of Irawat, they will get more support from the people.
