Imphal, November 11 2010:
The Longmai Village Authority has alleged that ex-chairman of Longmai village Lanshingam Gangmei has misappropriated a sum of Rs 5,27,646 sanctioned as material components for construction of MI Dam, plantation of orange, social forestry etc under MGNREGS.
Consequent upon this alleged fund embezzlement, further sanction of MGNREGS fund has been blocked.
However, Lanshingam Gangmei's father PG Rugongpou has not said anything till date about the fraudulence as he is also a party in the embezzlement of public money, the village authority alleged in a press release.
As a result of this act of fraudulence, the daily wages for 25 days have not been released yet even as other villages of Tamenglong district have received their wages for the same period.
Saying that Lanshingam Gangmei has been taking shelter in the official bungalow of the local MLA, the village appealed to all authorities concerned including the local MLA not to harbour the scandalous ex-chairman who had been allegedly hiding from public for the last 2/3 months.
It further appealed to the Tamenglong DC and the Project Officer of Nungba Block not to cover up the culprit but work for his surrender at the earliest in public interest and to release the money entitled to innocent job-card holders without further delay.
