Under the theme of "Women and Men united to end violence against women and girls", the International Women' Day was observed at Bilei village community hall under Sardar Hills of Senapati district on March 8. The observation also called for equal sharing of responsibilities between men and women challenging violence including care giving in the context of HIV/AIDS.
Addressing the occasion, L Michael Singh, community development coordinator, World Vision India, Sardar Hills and Mr Doumang Touthang, social worker, while basing on the theme also stressed on the need and importance of equal sharing of responsibilities between men and women.
The resource persons also stressed on the need for mutual understanding, love and respect between men and women which would help bring about human transformation in the family and society.
L.Michael Singh stated that women should be given a space to develop themselves as they have the great role in building up the society to the more progressive and safer one.
He also stressed that the men should not suppress and dominate the women if our society wants to see brighter future.
As a part of the International Women's Day, a painting competition was also conducted based on the theme of the day.
Over sixty students from nine villages studying in Classes IV to X participated in the painting competition.
In the competition, Ngamminlengou Touthang of H.Gelmoul (Class VI) was declared the winner while Lhingboi Khongsai of Satang (Class IV) was declared the runners up.
Jangkhohao Touthang of Bilei (Class VI) was declared third.
Five consolation prizes were also given away to Ngamneo Haokip (Gangpijang), Nengpichong Guite (Satang), Tinngaiching (Satang), Nehgoulal Khongsai (Bilei) and Ngamminlun Touthang (H.Gelmoul).
