Imphal, August 14:
Greeting the people of Manipur on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of Independence Day, Governor Dr SS Sidhu has stated that the India's freedom was not a gift of the Britishers but was attained after sacrificing innumerable lives at the altar of the long freedom struggle.
He further said that yesterday's generation handed over freedom to us and it is our duty to protect it at any cost and under all circumstances.
However, freedom should not be misinterpreted with the narrow sense of separatism.
United we stand, divided we fall is the lesson of history and any challenge to unity and integrity of the Nation has to be faced collectively and boldly.
Only then celebration of Independence Day will be meaningful, he said.
