Imphal, Aug 28:
The decision of the councillors to go for en mass resignation as part of the ongoing agitation being launched under the banner of All Manipur Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat Councillors' Joint Action Committee in pursuance of various demands has been put on hold for sometime following the assurance given by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to discuss their demands on August 31.As the Government has failed to redress the grievances of the Councillors despite a memorandum having submitted highlighting their demands, the JAC served an ultimatum and organised Wakat Meepham on August 22.Later the Councillors also took out a mass rally and submitted another memorandum to the Governor on August 25.To intensify their agitation, the Councillors had earlier announced to resign en mass today.
But after the Chief Minister send a letter to the JAC inviting for a joint meeting at 3 pm of August 31 to discuss the matter, the Councillors decided to put off the en mass resignation stir and wait for the outcome of the proposed meeting.
Nonetheless, the JAC has made it clear that the Councillors would resume their stir from September 1 if the outcome of the meeting is not positive.
