Imphal, June 25:
The proscribed KCP has denied deducting a certain percentage amounting to Rs 84,000 from the Urban Development Fund allocated by the State Government to the Imphal Municipal Council.
A spokesman of the outfit's Investigation Team asserted that no such instruction was given to any of its cadres.
Speaking to reporters at a place in Thoubal district, the spokesperson maintained that the outfit, adhering to its resolution not to make monetary demands from general public and Government Departments, has been abstaining from such fund collection drives.
However, there was a report in the media that KCP had taken its percentage share of Rs 84,000 from the total Rs 80.70 lakhs sanctioned from Urban Development Fund under State Plan to the IMC.
Acting on the report, the Investigation Team of the outfit conducted an investigation into the matter.
In the process, IMC cashier Khuraijam Nimai (54) of Khagempalli Panthak was pulled up and questioned on the matter.
Nimai disclosed that 10 percent of the amount sanctioned to IMC under State Plan was deducted and the deducted amount was handed over to IMC Chairperson Jiwanlata and project officer Manoharmayum Sarda in accordance to their instruction, conveyed the KCP spokesperson.
The Investigation Team then contacted Sarda who confirmed that 10 percent of the amount deducted in the name of KCP was actually taken by the UNLF.
The KCP never asked the IMC to deduct 10 percent of the fund in favour of the outfit nor did UNLF intimate about the matter nor hand over the amount to KCP, stated the spokesperson while appealing to all concerned to desist from such misleading activities in future.
Cashier Nimai pulled up by the KCP's Investigation Team was also produced before media persons and allowed to give his comments.
He was later handed over to family members safely.
