Churachandpur, January 25 2010:
Behiang village and its adjoining area comprising of more than 13 villages bordering Myamar under Singat sub division of Churachandpur District need a border trading centre and to be developed into a tourist destination like Moreh for business and economic development in near future.
At present, there is only one outdated market shed.
The village does not even have a government school.
The appalling condition of Behiang and its adjoining areas as also the plight of the villagers came to light recently when this correspondent visited recently.
The duty road connecting Singat to Behiang is not vehicle worthy and is fit for bullock cart.
While visiting the area one can see the natural scenic beauty of the forrest and heaps of charcoal bags ready for transportation to main town Churachandpur and elsewhere, by the roadside.
Indicating that the people of the area mostly depend charcoal for their livelihood .Compared to Moreh Behiang is larger in size with a lot of potential for economic development and as tourist destination.
While most yongchak trees dying in other parts of our state, they are still found growing well it Behiang, a reflection of the good quality of soil even
to day.
The villagers served Yongchak Eromba to this correspondent which was mouth wateringly delicious.
There is company post of the 30 Assam Rifles Commando at Behiang to look after the security of the area.
If border trading centre can be opened, it will serves as one of tourist destinations and will provide a platform for interaction with Myamarese citizen.
While walking about 15 km from Behiang toward Myamar side, one could notice salt water coming out from rock, which the Teddim Chin peoples consume as we do here.
As very few people take notice of the hardship being face by journalists in our state, sometimes journalist are like a tourist seeing and experiencing new things and discovering what is behind Jerusalem wall.
It is not high time that the state Government in consultation with Union government initiate a process to open a border trading centre for economic development and tourist destination at the earliest.
