Imphal, July 21 2010:
Casualty block of RIMS Hospital remained shut for the second consecutive day today as medical personnel of the premier institute ceased service in protest against the unsuccessful attempt to abduct a PG student by unidentified armed persons suspected to be activists of a Kuki UG group.
The PG student in Community Medicine namely kunal Chakraborti of Tripura was held captive by the armed persons from Churachandpur district's Molnom area yesterday before being rescued by a joint team of Bishnupur district police commandos and Assam Rifles troops later in the day.
While Casualty service has been affected since yesterday, the ongoing protest demonstration at the Hospital premises today disrupted OPD services also as House Surgeons and Interns joined their PG colleagues in staging sit-in-protest.
