Imphal, June 15 2009:
Setting up counter insurgency operation, security forces have arrested in all 9 UGs from different parts of the State over the last 24 hours.
Thoubal District Police Commandos apprehended two PREPAK activists during frisking and checking operation conducted acting on specific information about the movements of armed UG cadres in and around Thoubal Khekman area at around 7 pm yesterday.
Identifying the arrested PREPAK activists as Huidrom Deban Singh alias Eyamba (42) s/o late H Ibohal Singh of Upokpi Mamang Leikai and Wahengbam Inaobi Singh alias Inao (32) s/o W Joy Singh of Samushang, Additional SP of Thoubal Jogeshchandra Haobijam in a statement informed that on questioning the arrested duo disclosed that they were active members of PREPAK and joined the outfit in March 2009 through one S/S Cpl Khaba and now working under finance section of the proscribed outfit.
One Chinese made hand grenade was recovered from the possession of H Deban Singh alias Eyamba while six live rounds of AK ammunition from W Inaobi Singh alias Inao, the ASP informed, adding that one Honda Activa, grey in colour bearing registration no.MN-01Q/4187 .
On the other hand, based on specific information regarding presence of armed cadres in general area of Hiyanglam Hiranmai, troops of 21 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) launched operation and apprehended six UGs, two belonging to proscribed KYKL and four others to PREPAK at around 7.30 am today, according to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
The PRO identified the two arrested KYKL activists as no.11740 batch no.22 Romen (29) s/o Ishingchao of Kakching Irum Mapal and M Katia (28) s/o late M Thoiba of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai while the four arrested PREPAK activists as No.473 Shyamkumar alias Guni (34) s/i E Thanabaumacha of Tera Pishak, No.293431 batch no.29 Rishikanta alias Shanta (19) s/o Bino Singh of Tera Pishak, Dinesh alias Ibungo (29) s/o T Iboyaima Singh of Thongdam, Thoubal district and Somorjit alias Bocha (31) s/o E Ibothem of Hiyanglam Awang Leikai.
One 9 mm pistol magazine, one 9 mm ammunition and 13 live rounds of AK ammunition were recovered from the arrested UG cadres who have been handed over along with the recovered items to the Kakching Police Station later during the day, the PRO added.
Meanwhile, acting on a credible information, Imphal West District Police Commandos arrested one KYKL activist from Wangoi Bazar at around 9.30 am today.
In a statement, Senior SP of Imphal West L Kailun identified the arrested KYKL activist as Laishram Sohodeva Singh alias Raising (19) s/o L Loken Singh of Iramsiphai Mayai Leikai (Army no.13 of Ist batch).
On spot verification, Sohodeva disclosed that he joined KYKL in December 2004 through one Kesho Singh and got basic military training from Hong Kong training centre, Chittagong and now working in MI camp, Chittagong under the command of one S/S Lt Col Commanding Officer Khambaton.
