Imphal, December 13:
The foundation stone for the Kumbi bridge was laid today by Minister of Works Govindas Konthoujam as chief guest.
The construction work of the bridge sponsored by DoNER Ministry would be implemented by PWD.

The foundation laying ceremony held at Kumbi Bazar today was presided by local MLA and Minister of Commerce and Industries N Mangi.
Speaking on the occasion, Govindas lamented that many development schemes could not be implemented fully in the State.
Reminding that Manipur still remains far more backward as compared to other States of India, he appealed to all concern not to impede development works.
He also called upon the people to protect properties as their own properties.
Quoting instruction of the Ministry of DoNER, he said that the construction of the bridge would be completed two years' time while asking the implementing agency to finish the construction work within the specified time period.
He further instructed the State PWD to submit progress report of the construction work every month.
In his presidential speech, Commerce and Industries Minister N Mangi observed that once the bridge is constructed, the Moirang-Kumbi road which is currently a border district road can be upgraded to the status of a State highway.
He also exuded confidence that the new bridge over Khuga river would facilitate transportation among Chandel, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
The Kumbi bridge over the Khuga river would be 49 metres in length and would be built by RCC.
