Works for developing a model seed village of black bean was launched in 6 hectares of land at Wainem village of Senapati district under state agriculture department with the objective of attaining self sustenance in food.
Commissioner, Agriculture Department, Letkhogin Haokip while addressing the function encouraged farmers to take up plantation of various crops throughout the season in unexploited available land so as to reduce dependence on other states for food.
He also informed the need of farmers cooperation in government initiative with commitment to achieve the goal of government agricultural programmes, he motivated the farmers for utilizing land lying unused to derive greater produces for the state, so that state march ahead towards self sustenance.
He sought commitment and community participation to usher a self dependant society in foods.
Seeds of Black bean (T-9) were distributed to farmers of Wainem village for plantation in 6 hectares of land to develop Wainem village as one of the model seed village.
A session on the technique of seed treatment was also demonstrated for the farmers of Wainem village.
