Lamka, November 10:
Maintaining that Churachandpur is facing an impending famine with its threat becoming ever more real, ZEPADA is all set to conduct an open hearing on the functioning of PDS in Churachandpur.
A statement issued by its publicity department said the issue of famine have been raised here since 2005 by the civil societies.
However, the only official recognition of the issue came with the recent tour of the affected area by the DSO/FCS and the Government has so far failed to initiate any positive action, it alleged.
It nevertheless hailed the district administrator and FCS staff for taking exemplary steps, but confides that much more has to be done to effectively counter the impending threat of famine.
'The prompt response of the State Government when there was flood in valley district.
Mizoram State Government's request to Centre for additional allocation of food grains and purchase of rodent tails at the rate of Rs 2 per head etc are there for us to compare and make our own judgement,' it further lamented.
It is in this light that the agency has re-affirmed the need for immediate streamlining of PDS system and convened the public hearing on Monday at YPA Hall, Upper Lamka.
All interested individuals are invited to attend the meeting, while thos officials, nominees and FPS agents refraining from the hearing shall be regarded as anti-poor and anti-people.
