Kohima, November 24:
Goa Governor SC Jamir today escaped another attempt on his life, fourth time since 1993, after unidentified gunmen ambushed his convoy near his home town Mokokchung, about 160 km from here, this morning.
Unidentified gunmen triggered at least six remotecontrolled improvised explosive devices while Jamir was on his way from Mokokchung to Dimapur via Assam at a place between Mokokchung town and Changki village at around 6.30 am, police said.
Three unexploded IEDs were recovered from the site, 40 km from Mokokchung town.
No one was injured in the incident.
Security forces and police have rushed to the place and started investigation, they said.
Jamir, the longest-serving former chief minister of Nagaland, went to Mokokchung a few days back to attend some public functions.
This is for the fourth time Jamir had a providential escape since 1993 when the Naga strongman was seriously injured in an attack at Nagaland House, New Delhi.
Another abortive attempt was made in Kohima in 1995.In 1999, he escaped an ambush near Piphema, about 30 km from Kohima.
Two members of his personal security were killed in the attack.
The NSCN-IM on September 25 this year had declared Jamir as "anti-people and anti-national" and barred him from entering his home state.
