Imphal, November 02:
The JAC formed in connection with the October 28 firing by Thoubal police commandos at Thoubal Wangkhem ground has declared indefinite bandh in the entire district of Thoubal from November 3 mid-night.
A release of the JAC maintaining that the bandh call is part of its forthcoming agitation programmes also alleged that callous attitude of the State Government has constrained the body to impose the bandh as a previous intimation to the Chief Minister for appropriate punitive action against security personnel involved in the shooting failed to evoke positive response.
However, a caller claiming to be JAC functionary and citing time constraint conveyed that the bandh would instead commence from November 4 midnight.
Thirty five year old Aisha Bibi and Sahuda Bibi (38) reportedly suffered bullet wounds when the police commandos in civies opened fire when a large number of people attempted to prevent the security personnel from whisking away a youth at the end of a football match in Wangkhem ground.
While urging civil organisations to extend support to the bandh call, the JAC however informed that the agitation would not cover activities related to essential services and religious ceremonies.
