Imphal, May 24:
Ch Geetanjali
For topper in the Arts stream, Chandam Geetanjali of TG Higher Secondary School, the ultimate in her career would be to join the Civil Services, read that as an IAS officer.
Speaking to The Sangai Express at her Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak, the diligent student said that a career in the IAS has always been her dream and yes she is ready to put in the toil and sweat to make it to the elite service.
Striking a mature tone, Geetanjali said that one has to cultivate reading habit and at the same time mooted that studies should be planned meticulously.
For any student to march towards his/her goal there is no alternative to hard work, she philosophised, in a practical tone.
For all the hard work to bear fruits, proper guidance from teachers, parents and others is indispensable said the topper.
Geetanjali said she used to put in 6 hours of studies daily, three in the morning and three in the evening.
However as the examination drew nearer she started putting in more hours, said Geetanjali.
The topper was candid enough to admit that her performance has surpassed her expectations.
Though she was confident that she would be among the position holders, she never thought she would come first, said the young bright girl.
Though Geetanjali secured a total of 390 marks, she said that she was expecting her total to hover around the 370 score.
Geetanjali gave full credits to her parents and teachers for her good showing in the examination.
Shikha Jain
She may not exactly be a Helen Keller but Commerce topper Shikha Jain of SD Jain Mahavir Higher Secondary School, has more than enough to show what human endurance and hard work can do.
The topper in Commerce is paralysed from the waist and cannot walk after she suffered grievous injuries in a bomb blast in front of Mini Friends on Nov 10, 1994.However her physical shortcomings have not stopped the bright young girl from coming out with flying colours in the just declared Class XII examinations.
Says something about how adversities can be won over through sheer grit and hard work.
Reclining on a bed, the gutsy young girl told The Sangai Express at her residence that her mother should be credited for her good showing in the exam.
Ever since the unfortunate incident, the mother, Sharda Jain, who also works as a Hindi teacher at the school where Shikah studied, took it upon herself to carry her child to the school and back every day, through the years.
For the moment, though the Commerce topper has set her eyes on pursuing a career in Computer Science as computer is all about a "job of the mind".Being an invalid, the only recreations left for Shikha are games such a chess and of course computer games.
Hard work is the key to all successes said the young girl while stressing that guidance in the form of private tuition is also highly needed.
Shikha Jain though has a grouse against the Council.
The Council, she said is too strict while awarding marks and added that a little more generous marking will not do any harm.
This sentiment was also echoed by the second topper, Priya Jain, who also studied in the same school as Shikha Jain.
For Priya Jain the next thing is to do her MBA and then go in for the Civil Services exam.
Diana Thongjaomayum
For Science topper Diana Thongjaomayum of Harvard School, it is the teaching job that fascinates her.
Talking to The Sangai Express Diana attributed her success to consistent and regular work plus a dosage of good luck.
This is not the first time that Diana has excelled in a public examination having secured the second position in the HSLC examination.
Her mother Chitra, who works as an LDC at IFCD said that as she had secured the second spot in the matric examination, Harvard School did not charge any fees.
The school even provided her uniform and text books.
Hard work is the key, said Diana like the other two toppers and added that she used to study about 6 hours on a daily basis.
Diana further said that her parents never used to pressurise her to study and as such there was not much tension.
Her mother who is a Government employee and her businessman father thought it best to leave her study choice to herself and this helped as the result has shown.
