Imphal, October 29:
"It was always a dream for we remote villagers to have a continuous water supply in our village and our dream has finally been realized.
Thanks to the Army" said Thenkhomang, the village Chief of Ukha in CCpur district.
Troops of 57 Mountain Division located in the area shared the pain and anguish of the remote Tribal village situated beyond the Thangjing ridge.
The only water source is about 3 km away.
The plight of people, especially the womenfolk who have to walk 6 km for water can well be imagined.
57 Mountain Division troops located in the area carried out a recee of the area and it was felt that the problem can be solved to a great extent if three cemented tanks can be constructed, one at the water source, the second enroute and the third at the village itself.
The most difficult part was ferrying the construction material to the village as it is not connected by any vehicular road or even track.
The sturdy troops of 6 JAT and extremely fit villagers decided that came what way, the material would reach the site.
Though it took 3 months, the tanks were finally constructed and the young Company Commander at Ukha inaugurated and handed over the project to the village chief.
