Imphal, July 26:
Movement for Tribal People's Rights, Manipur (MTPRM) has urged the Chief Secretary of the State for taking up necessary actions for verifying the short-listed villages for taking up 'Bamboo plantation project' in the hill districts of Manipur.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Secretary, MTPRM president S Ramhaoleng pointed out that verification of the short-listed villages is essential so that the genuine villages are selected in the interest of successful implementation of the project.
While informing that the selection or identification of the villages to be covered under the said project is done by the Forest Department through the Divisional Forests Officers (DFOs) concerned, the memorandum maintained that it has been learned that some non-existent villages have been short-listed.
The selection/inclusion of these villages will definitely jeopardise the noble policy of the Government as many deserving villages have been left out intentionally, the memorandum observed.
