Incidents of detaining of bandh supporters including the finance secretary of CNPO by Thoubal district police commandos marked the first day of the CNPO sponsored indefinite Chandel district bandh today.
The CNPO has been imposing an indefinite bandh in the district demanding shifting of KYKL (MDF) surrendered cadres from 20 Assam Rifles.
The Chandel Naga People's Organization, while expressing its strong resentment, accused the Thoubal police commandos of over acting outside their jurisdiction.
The organization has also demanded that the six Thoubal Police commandos involved in the incident should apologize as per the customary law of the land and must compromise with the CNPO.
According to the spokesperson, the CNPO, unhappy over the incident has also demanded the transfer of Md Umaralam, officer in charge of the Tengnoupal Police Station within one week.
Charging that the SP of Chandel E Priyokumar of being unfit and unable to control his sub-ordinate staff and officers, the CNPO has also demanded his transfer within one month, informed the spokesperson.
The Spokesperson of the CNPO further informed that the bandh will continue until and unless the demands for shifting of KYKL (MDF) surrendered cadres from 20 BN Assam Rifles is fulfilled.
Pledging that the bandh will be intensified, the CNPO spokesperson said it will not be held responsible for any loss and damage of property during the course of the bandh.
Meanwhile, normal life was partially affected in Chandel district headquarters.
Attendance in Govt offices was also thin.
However half of the shops in the town were seen open.
