Thoyee, April 19 2011:
Protesting against the monetary demand of KCP-MC (Nongdrenkhomba/Taibangnganba faction), staff of DRDA Bishnupur today staged a Wakat Meepham in front of their office gate today.
The outfit reportedly served an extortion note last month demanding that a sum of Rs 60 lakhs should be paid from the DRDA office which has only 10 staff.
The extortion note was reportedly served through to one Ningthoujam Jayanta, who is the Assistant Project Officer in the DRDA office.
The protest demonstration was staged decrying such demands which could not be met.
The protestors also appealed to the outfit for withdrawing the demand.
Talking to media, the staff of the DRDA office have explained that their job is only to monitor the developmental tasks being implemented with funding under Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats.
So, it is unreasonable to ask for such a huge amount from the staff.
It may be recalled here that Bishnupur District Police Commandos have recently apprehended three hardcore cadres of the outfit including a woman.
Of the arrested trio, two of them were allegedly involved in the abortive attempt made to abduct the Assistant Project Officer of the office sometime earlier.
