IMC seat reservation

Imphal, April 15 2011:
As draw of lot to finalise reservation of seats for women had never been conducted under some definite rules and regulations, apprehension has been expressed over possible deprivation of reserved seats to women in all the wards in the upcoming election to Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) as well.
According to a reliable source, since the reservation of seats for women in local bodies came into force, draw of lot to finalise the reserved seats for women under IMC had never been conducted properly in accordance to laid down guidelines.
The draw of lot to decide the reserved seats for women in IMC, which is divided into 27 wards, is conducted together for all the wards.
This has resulted in cases where some wards have remained reserved for women over and over again while some wards only for men.
In connection with the ensuing election to IMC, a similar draw of lot to decide the reserved seats for women is to be conducted at GM Hall on April 20 at 11 am.
Since the draw of lot is to be conducted together for all the 27 wards, the possibility of wards, which had earlier been reserved for women, being decided for reservation again for women is very high.
Since the reservation of seats for women was effected, ward no.14 had twice been reserved for women while it has been an all-male candidates contest in ward no.19 twice.
