Imphal, August 13 2009:
Questioning the moral rights of the political leaders to pay tributes to the martyrs on the sacred occasion of the Patriots' Day, the JAC Against the Killing of Ch Sanjit has lambasted the political leaders of the State who are bereft of the noble qualities of the martyrs.
A press release issued by the JAC asserted that the arrest of women activists, who were demanding that the sinful hands of the political leaders, should not unveil the statue of a martyr like Thangal General and that they did not have any right to offer tributes to the martyrs, lacked justification.
Lambasting the sixty MLAs for their conspicuous silence at such a critical situation, the JAC asked as to what MP Dr Meinya and Minister N Biren have been doing all these days.
The JAC recalled the time when Dr Meinya and N Biren pledged to serve the cause of the people with axes in their hands at the foot of Sahid Minar.
Questioning the failure of MP Dr Mienya to raise any issue concerning the people of Manipur in Parliament except during zero hour, the JAC asked whether the MP has sold himself to the Chief Minister.
It would be more prudent on the part of the MP to resign on moral ground.
Saying that Minister Biren got elected on the plank of human right issues, the JAC questioned what N Biren has been doing as well as his counterparts K Ranjit and Lokendro.
Going on the offensive against different political parties like RJD, BJP, NCP, CPI etc, the JAC asked whether they have contributed anything to the people's movement.
Likewise, MPP too should come out with its actual line of action.
All the 60 MLAs should perform their duties due to the people of Manipur without any delay otherwise all their effigies would be burnt in public, it added.
