Twenty two village chiefs of Thanlon and Henglep sub-division complemented various initiatives of the Assam Rifles who have been deployed in their areas since February.
Speaking to this correspondent, representatives of Munlai, Saihum, Tuilumjang, Thigkeu, Chingkhozo, Munpi, Mualdak, Kawlhen, D Khozim, Tuili Leibul, Phaipheng, Phailianbung, Mualhoichiang, Maite, Kaimunnuam, Lungchuang, Santing I & II, Saichang, Chingchin, Aina and Phunchingjang village chiefs praised the AR for restoring peaceful atmosphere in their locales and for their humanitarian assistance to their subjects.
The Assam Rifles were being praised for their initiative in developing and adopting the neglected stretch of Tipaimukh Road.
The representatives claimed that their lands were once again open to the outside world after ten years as personnel of AR repaired the roads and made them accessible not only for trucks but also for Tata Sumos.
The chiefs also applauded the para-military forces for attending to the sick and needy besides offering free transportation to serious patients for receiving better treatment at the district headquarters.
The AR was also appreciated for providing agricultural seeds in order to revitalize their farming methods and enlighten them of more viable alternatives for sustenance.
A good number of playgrounds, something very rare in this hilly interior part were also gifted to the region.
The chiefs' representatives also produced a dispatch from Colonel RS Bains, Commandant of 2nd AR in which he assured the populace of providing every possible facility including transportation and transit accommodation for all participants in the Kut 2006 celebration schedule to be hosted at Leijangphai.
