Imphal, March 12 2011:
PAC 807 variety of paddy plant and bio-fertilizers have been distributed to farmers of Urup by social worker N Itomba Meetei, along with Keirao Bitra Loumee Lup advisor W Suresh in a simple function today.
The agricultural items meant for cultivation/use at an area of about 15 paris were distributed to the farmers, who suffered widespread devastation due to flooding last year.
The paddy variety would be ready for harvesting in three months.
an elderly local applauding Itomba for his personal initiative to help the grief-stricken farmers also pledged to extend all possible cooperation in any future endeavour of the social worker.
Speaking at the occasion, N Itomba regretted that inspite of declaring through the media that alternative arrangement would be made for the distraught farmers of Urup and Arapti areas in the form of a special package the sitting MLA is yet to translate the assurance into action.
With apparent reference to the forthcoming general elections, he appealed to people of Keirao AC to chose individual who would work impartially in the interest of the electorates rather than stamp their invaluable approval to individuals who would forget the people after being elected.
In his address, Lup advisor Suresh strongly proposed that Keirao AC MLA Md Alauddin Khan bring out a white paper on development work, if any, implemented in the two term period of the MLA.
Contending that compared to other Assembly constituencies, Keirao AC lags far behind in terms of development, Suresh doubted sincerity and commitment of the sitting MLA with the assertion that road development work for Keirao and Langdum areas have not been included in the PMGSY programme.
