Road mishap claims couple

Imphal, May 07 2011:
A couple have been killed in a fatal road mishap that occurred at Utlou along Imphal-Churachandpur road at about 8 am today.
The couple were travelling in an auto-rickshaw when the auto-rickshaw was rammed by a Tata Winger passenger van (MN-05C/0254) .
Five others including a child sustained injuries.
A police source informed that one tyre of the Winger van's rear wheel got burst near Utlou Chanura Keithel.
The driver lost control of his van as the tyre got burst and it rammed the auto-rickshaw (MN-01B/1485) coming from the opposite direction.
Atom (O) Sorojini (60) of Thounaojam Leikai, Tidim Road died on the spot.
Her husband Atom Dinachandra (60) was rushed to RIMS in critical condition.
But he succumbed to the injuries in the afternoon.
Driver of the auto-rickshaw Pukhrambam Anilkumar (40) who happens to be son-in-law of Sorojini and Dinachandra was taken to Shija Hospital.
The fatal mishap occurred as the family were going to Nambol Thiyam for offering prayer.
The other injured victims were passengers of the Winger van.
They included a mother and one 18 months old infant.
The driver of the van fled away from the scene leaving the van which was subsequently seized by police.
In connection with the incident, a case has been registered in Nambol police station.
