The second phase of enumeration for Census 2011 in the state will begin on Wednesday, February 9.SK Chakarborti, Deputy Director General, Registrar General, New Delhi unveiled the mascot of the enumerators today.
The second phase, which will extend till Feb 28, will consist of 7000 enumerators and supervisors.
Addressing media persons at Hotel Classic today, Chakarborti recalled that the first phase of the census was carried out from May to September 2010, in which enumerators finalised house listings and collection of data on National Population Register (NPR).
In the second phase which is to begin on February 9, enumerators and supervisors will conduct house to house head counts.
A revision round will be carried out from March 1 to 5, 2011, he added.
Taking photographs for identity cards and finger printings will also be conducted in the second phase of the census.
The arrival of the required equipment for the process is however still awaited.
With the objective of spreading awareness to the people about the census, the concerned authority has started organizing district level football matches in all the districts in association with the All Manipur Football Association (AMFA).
Rs.10 lakh has been earmarked, the deputy director said.
Football has been used as a tool to make the people aware of the census since the Indian football team comprises of at least four players from the state.
The briefing was attended by state coordinator of census, S Dinokumar.
Director of census operation in Manipur, Y Thamkishore said that a total of 7000 teachers were deployed for the census 2011 in the state.
Around Rs.2 crore has been earmarked for the state, he added.
He said that the census operation in the state faces no problems.
He sought corporation of the public through the media saying that census of India 2011 is towards a bright future.
