Imphal, August 06 2009:
A CRPF man has been killed in a road mishap while his minor son and an IRB driver sustained injuries this morning.
The fatal accident occurred during the short period of curfew relaxation this morning when there was heavy rush of traffic as people hurried to buy essential commodities and went for their urgent works.
CRPF Constable Md Siraj Khan (38), of 27 Bn CRPF and currently attached to CBI Imphal and his six year old son Amir Hussain were coming to Imphal from CRPF Group Centre Langjing on a Honda Activa when they were rammed by a Gypsy of 3rd IRB coming from the opposite direction near Naoremthong Khumanthem Leikai Ubakthong at about 6.20 am, conveyed a police source.
Siraj Khan was overtaking an auto-rickshaw from the right in the course of which the two vehicles grazed against each other.
Possibly, the IRB Gypsy rammed him as he fell down, said the source.
In his effort to skirt the fallen Activa, the driver of the Gypsy turned towards the road-side river bank (Nambul river).
The Gypsy ran up the river bank before losing balance and falling
sideways.
Siraj died on the spot.
However, his son Amir was immediately rushed to RIMS and then Shija Hospitals before shifting to JN Hospital where the boy is currently undergoing treatment.
Driver of the Gypsy, Sanjoy who sustained injury was also taken to hospital.
Siraj Khan of Kwakta Charangpat was staying in rented rooms at Hatta.
One of his brother is being posted at CRPF Group Centre Langjing.
The fateful accident occurred when Siraj was bringing back his son from his younger brother's place of posting.
The corpse of the deceased has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS.
A case has been registered at Lamphel police station in connection with the incident.
Notably, indefinite curfew being imposed in Imphal West and Imphal East districts to avert subversive activities during the course of the mass movements against the BT Road firing incident of July 23 was relaxed from 5 am to 9 am today.
