Raizanlong celebrated quas-quicentennial anniversary

Raizanlong, an association of 18 border Tangkul villages in Manipur celebrated its quas-quicentennial anniversary at Nampisha, the most remote border village, reports NNN.
The Raizanlong with its motto "Peace & Advancement" was formed in 1886 and has completed 125 years of its raising.
Raizanlong has braved the prolonged period of insurgency and being located on International Border has faced the brunt of the insurgency and due to its location still remains much behind in socio-economic and infrastructural development.
The villages of the Raizanlong have also faced the turmoil of World War-II, however, the deep rooted traditions, culture and bravery of the people of this area have taken all these, in their strides and continued with their march towards peace and advancement.
44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 10 Sector Assam Rifles under IGAR(S) extended whole hearted material and financial support to make this four day long celebrations a grand success.
Number of sports and cultural events were organised during the celebrations.
Main features of the event were volleyball, football, archery, folk dance and other cultural events.
The event commenced on January 31 with Victor Keishing, Parliamentary Secretary, Tribal Affairs and Hills and IT (government of Manipur) and Colonel Rajesh Singh Thakur, Commandant 44 Assam Rifles alongwith number of civil dignitaries including Headmen, Secretary of Raizanlong and adjoining villages witnessed the inaugural function.
The three days of the event was marked with sports, cultural events and competition.
The event culminated on February 4 with the finals of all the events.
The event was also attended by number of locals from adjoining border villages of Myanmar who in their small makeshift shops made eatables and other items available to large number of people who flocked from the adjoining areas to enjoy the event.
Locals thanked Assam Rifles for providing an opportunity, having peace in mind to celebrate the event with pomp and show.
The inhibition in the minds of people and lack of amenities were repelled at the first go only when friends of North East came up with their helping hand.
The long awaited fusion of the people with an international Boundary running in between was a treat to watch and the complete function turned out to a gala celebration.
