Imphal, March 30:
In a fall out of the simmering tension in Andro after the 9th Assembly elections, women came to blows during a public meeting held at Andro Kangjeibung today.
On the other hand, the number of displaced Andro villagers taking refuge at Huikap has been increasing.
The public meeting organised by the All Andro Meira Paibi Association and the All Andro Youth Clubs Organisation to deliberate on the lingering post poll tension in the village was presided by Chingakham Manglembi.
Many speakers addressing the meeting maintained that there was no case of Andro villagers fleeing to Huikap.
It was just a false propaganda floated by some vested interest group.
When the meeting organisers called out a woman to clarify in public for her statement that the ailing Budhichandra has recovered, the woman maintained that what she said was what many other people said.
Consequent upon the statement, a serious altercation followed with another woman resulting in exchange of blows.
Later , the quarreling women were pacified by the people.
Nevertheless, three different resolutions were adopted during the meeting.
To urge the authority concerned for befitting punishment to Y Shyamchandra and N Sarat accused for assaulting H Budhichandra, to work out an icable solution with Huikap local organisations regarding villagers taking shelter in Huikap and to banish Shyamchandra and Sarat along with their families from Andro forever were the resolutions adopted today.
Speaking at the meeting, ex-chairperson of Andro Nagar Panchayat Lukhoi Khuman clarified that the dispute in Andro is not related to the Assembly elections but a result of the attempt by some Meira Paibis to deviate from the work and purpose of a Meira Paibi organisation.
He also conveyed his desire for the local MLA and the people of Huikap to help in resolving the issue amicably.
All Andro Meira Paibi Association president Ch Manglembi said that doors are wide open for fled away villagers to return to their homes at Andro.
Meanwhile, the number of Andro villagers taking shelter at Huikap has reached 40 today.
A relief camp has been opened at Huikap for them where they are being provided food and other materials by the Lamjingkhol Huikap Uchol unit.
