Imphal, Jun 20:
Despite the deplorable condition of the existing bridges along National Highway 53, the work on repairing/construction of the important bridges is likely to wait till the issue of Tipaimukh dam is resolved.
According to a reliable source, apart from strengthening/repairing of the dilapidated bailey bridges located between Makru and Barak, the work and construction of concrete bridges would have to wait till the Tipaimukh dam issue is resolved permanently.
As the work on development of new roads can be taken up only after the issue is settled, the State Govt has also not been able to take a definite decision on construction of the concrete bridges along the said route, the source clarified.
It may be noted, the Union Ministry of Surface Transport had already sanctioned a sum of Rs 6 crores for the development of the bailey bridges located between Makru and Barak stretch of the National Highway.
