World Anti-Tobacco Day observed

Nehru Yuva Kendra, Thoubal observed World No Tobacco Day with PRI members at the newly inaugurated community hall at Oinam Sawombung Village in Thoubal district on May 31 .
Thoubal Zila Parishad Adhyaksha MV Atao Rahman, Thoubal ADM Nabakishor Singh and Pradhan Bilashini Devi attended the observance as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively, said a press release.
In his keynote address, District Youth Co-ordinator, NYK Thoubal, Y Lakshman Singh pointed out the harmful effects of consuming tobacco to health, family and society at large.
The Youth Club members have a big role to play in the prevention of tobacco use among the youths.
Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India the NYK is also organising a massive campaign on awareness and education for prevention of drug abuse and alcoholism in Manipur.
The village level programme was officially launched by the Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal at Kakching on May 21 .
The Kendra organised lecture and oath taking programmes at Kakching Khunou with the NSS unit of the Kakching Khunou College.
H Sunil, District Resource person of SPYM, a national level organisaiton based at Thoubal and T Rojit of RIAC Project were invited as resource persons in the awareness programme held at Tangjeng Khunou in Kakching Block.
Focus group discussions were conducted at NYK office, Thoubal and BASU ground, Khangabok in which Y Lakshman Singh, DYC and Ch Basanta Singh, DPO took initiative in the discussions.
Essay writing competition followed by organisation of awareness and education for prevention of drug abuse were held at Moijing Village with Ch Basanta Singh, DPO, Thoubal.
The effort made by NYK for prevention of drug abuse and alcoholism will continue in the selected villages of Thoubal District, Manipur, added the press release.
