North East Welfare Society (NEWS) organised a one-day resource mobilisation programme under the sponsorship of Manipur Small Farmers Agri-Business Consortium (MSFAC) at Purul Akutpa village in Senapati district yesterday.
Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, District Officer of Horticulture and Soil Conservation L Ibochou said his department has been taking up various development activities in the district.
The cultivation of Passion Fruits successfully is one such activity, he added.
He also assured all possible assistance to those private individuals and NGOs willing to take up cultivation of Passion fruits on large scale.
Giving the key note address, Project co-ordinator of MSFAC MS Khaidem noted that there is great demand for U-Khamen (a variety of sour Tomato growing in the area), in market outside the State, and appealed to the people to take up the task of cultivating this variety of tomato earnestly.
With setting up of a factory for processing Passion fruits at Punanamei in Mao, there is also the need for cultivation of Passion fruits on a large scale, he noted.
Khaidem also drew the attention of the North East Welfare Society (NEWS), for promoting pisciculture activities for large scale production of the fish rearing by the people in the paddy fields of Purul.
District Agriculture Officer, Senapati Th Rajmani and president of Pupul Union Ngaopuni were also present at the occasion as guest of honour and president respectively.
