Imphal, December 15:
In view of the State Governments proposed move to constitute State Womens Commission a conference on Crime Against Women will be held on December 17, said representatives of different women organisations.
Speaking to reporters at Nongmeibung this evening Meekhols general secretary M Nirmala Devi suggested that incumbents for the proposed Commission should be well versed on women issues.
She also mooted that instead of choose and pick formula Government adopt a method of shortlisting and scrutiny of women activists as Commission members so that the panel meet the aspiration of the womenfolk.
According to AMKIL president Sorojini Leima State Governments belated proposal is note worthy and appreciable but the fact that such significant move were not conveyed or consulted with any of the numerous women organisations playing crucial role on various issues is unacceptable as the process lacks transparency.
She also expressed that such dubious policy leaves ample scope to suspect whether the Commission members would be able to deliver justice to the very purpose of setting up the panel.
