Police resorted to firing tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse women protesters who marched towards Tiddim ground to attend a public meeting after staging sit-in-protest at Nambol.
Out of the injured persons four are reported to be seriously hurt requiring medical treatment.
The four women agitators who were treated at nambol Primary Health Centre are identified as Mongjam Shanti (35) of Laitonjam Khuri Leikai, Wahengbam Kiran (32) and A Gambhini (57) of Nambol Kongkham Awang Leikai and Ch Ibechaobi Devi (58) of Nambol Awang Leikai.
In continuation of the widespread agitation to protest the extra-judicial killing of Th Manorama Devi and demand to scrap draconian laws from Manipur, sit-in-protests were staged at various places of the State today.
The protests organised by women and voluntary organisations were staged at Toubungkhok Lamkhai, Bless Academy premise, Tera Keithel, keisamthong Irom Pukhri Mapal Govt LP School etc.
About 500 women members of meira paibi and voluntary organisations of Pheijaleitong, Khoirou Mamang Leikai, Pheijaleitong Makha Leikai and Ningomthong Sairom leirak also staged protest dharna at Ningomthong.
As part of the ongoing agitation, effigies of the Chief Minister, Union Home Minister and Assam Rifles DIG were burnt by infuriated youth and women of Keisampat leimajam Leikai at Keisampat today.
A protest rally was also organised at tronglaobi Awang where about 3000 people shouted slogans demanding arrest and prosecution of guilty AR men and lifting of Disturbed Area status during the march from Tronglaobi till Tera Khongsangbi.
