Manipur won four gold and four silver medal medal on the second day of the ongoing 11th national junior fencing championship at Khuman Lampak Indoor stadium here.
In all state(Manipur) affairs final of individual epee boys international fencer S Jayanta beat fellow A Sanatomba to win the gold medal.
In girls sabre individual, Harina of Manipur defeated her fellow Th Tinku (of Manipur) to win the gold medal.
In another final of individual boys sabre Chingsomba of Manipur beat his fellow Rupachandra (of Manipur) to win third gold medal of hosts.
In individual girls foil final W Usharani of Manipur beat Kh Roji of also of Manipur to win the fourth gold medal for Manipur.
The championship which will continue till February 19 is being organized by Manipur Fencing Association, MFA under the auspices of Fencing Association of India, FAI.
Host Manipur and neibouring Assam are the only states from the entire northeast to participate in the championship.
The championship is being hosted here for the first time in the region.
Fencing is one of the disciplines that have domination of Manipur.
The discipline has been a major contributor of medals in the previous nationals games held in Manipur, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh.
MFA organized the first state level fencing championship in 1989 which was first of its kind in the entire northeast states.
Since then there is no looking back for MFA and produced 18 international fencers from Manipur so far.
