The members of Lions Club of Imphal Greater conducted a social service camp to clean up the sacred Nungjeng Pukhri located inside the Kangla Fort today.
Speaking at the occasion, Lion M Gojendra, who is one of the former presidents of the Club taking part in the camp said that Kangla is a historic and sacred place for the people of Manipur and it should be kept clean, green and beautiful.
He lamented that for not taking proper care of such an important place.
The Lions have also sought the permission of the concerned authorities for taking up the challenges of cleaning the sacred pond with the involvement of Imphal Bazar community.
Social service: In recognition of their historical importance, the volunteers of Ideal Club, Sagolband Tera Keithel today conducted a one-day social service camp to clean the surrounding area of Samu Makhong, Maharani Thong and Thongnambonbi today in commemoration of the courage shown by the womenfolk of Khwairamband bazar during the agitation against artificial scarcity of rice 40 years back.
