New Delhi, October 29 2010:
About a hundred representatives of the Tripura People's Front of Tripura are camping in Delhi in demand for creation of a separate State based on the scheduled areas of Tripura.
The demand area would cover the areas inhabited by the Indigenous people / the aborigines, the geographically hill areas.
In an appeal statement, the IPFT laid down several issues that the indigenous people in Tripura face.
It stated that the Indigenous people today are being reduced to a minority in their own home State due to massive influx of 'outsiders'.
Apart from being socially and economically one of the most under developed peoples, the indigenous people are further being exploited , oppressed and deprived of their basic rights, maintaining that the unequal development is visible in terms of plain and hill, whereas hill areas inhabited by the indigenous are comparatively underdeveloped.
It also lamented that the AFSPA implemented since 1997 in the hill areas has resulted in several human rights violation of indigenous people.
The appeal stated that the demand for a separate State is not a secessionist intention.
Rather the demand is to seek a solution to the problem faced by the indigenous people of Tripura.
According to NC Debbarma President IPFT, it is a rightful claim of the people.
He said "we are the original people of Tipraha.
The Tripra / Borok people are a Nation" .
After a series of rally and sit demonstration the delegation will seek appointments with the Prime Minister and other Central leadership.
