The 9th foundation day of United Peoples' Front (UPF), Manipur was observed at the MDU Hall here and problems besetting the State has been critically analysed.
UCM president K Langamba and former UPF president Advocate Y Devdutta were respectively the chief guest and president of the function attended UPF advisor Joy Nongmaithem, Nupi Samaj president Taruni, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup president Shakhi, Chingmee-Tammee Apunba Nupi Lup president Momon and UPF founder president Kh Ratan as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Langamba noted that the rest of the Indian States have already formulated policies to improve the economic condition so as to make themselves self-reliant.
However, in Manipur, the economy has been deteriorating day by day since the British colonialists left.
Taking up the migrant issue, he said if no concrete steps have not been taken from now on to stop influx of outsiders, then 20 years from hence, Manipur would be under the control of these migrants completely.
When this imminent danger becomes a reality, then what would be worth of the efforts being made today for protecting the territorial integrity of Manipur ?, he questioned.
He also emphatically stated that there is the need for all the organisations to join hands and solve the problems afflicting the Manipur today.
Presenting in-depth analysis on the economic problems besetting the State, Dr Lokendra Arambam read out a paper on the topic of 'Contemporary issues of North East with special relevant to Manipur', while Prof Ch Priyoranjan of Manipur University delivered a talk on 'Towards the self supporting economy of Manipur in the wake of Manipur' as resource persons.
At the occasion of the foundation day observance, the newly elected office bearers of UPF were introduced to the people apart from presenting gifts some noted personalities like Jamupul Ulama, general secretary of Moulana Sahid Ahmed, Babupara and A Thoitak, president of Komrem Union.
Gifts and other eatables were also reportedly distributed among the inmate patients at RIMS and JN Hospital to mark the 9th foundation day celebration of United People's Front.
