In an interesting development to the run-up of the Parliamentary elections, a woman candidate emerged Thursday in the state of Manipur as a candidate of the Rastriya Bahujan Congress Party (RBCP) for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency.
Loitongbam Kshetrani, 49, d/o (L) Tomba Singh of Sagolband Bijoy Govinda Akham Leikai in Imphal West, Manipur, during a press meet at her residence revealed that the reason behind for contesting the election was to give the message of the ability of women in politics.
She also expressed her desire to show the women in this part of the region how far women can go in the field and added that the issue of women should be taken to the higher level.
"My work will be my words", she stated.
Loitongbam Kshetrani also informed that she received the tickets from the RBCP on March 17 from the central party leaders and opined that with her contesting in the election it would be the beginning of the party in the North East region.
With a Masters' degree in Mathematics, the candidate of the RBCP claims to have been involved in politics for a long time and revealed that apart from contesting twice in councilor elections she had been with various political parties such as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), the Manipur People's Party (MPP) and the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP).
She also informed that MSCP was the first political party she joined.
