Imphal, March 26:
In connection with the forthcoming Sajibu Cheiraoba which falls on April 14, the All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO) has kick started its campaign christened Sajibu Khudol Tamba, Egee Khongul Liba today at Ikou Bazar.
The kick-off function was graced by AMESCO president LS Guite, president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur L Memchoubi and other functionaries of different organisations as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, AMESCO general secretary S Nando highlighted the basic objectives of the campaign.
He said that the campaign launched by AMESCO in collaboration with some other civil organisations in 2001 is aimed at restoring the age old filial relationship between the hills and valley which had strained at a historical point of time.
In line with the ancient tradition of sisters presenting gifts to brothers on the occasion of Cheiraoba, the campaign under which gifts are presented to brothers of hill areas, has been taken up to remove the walls erected among the various ethnic groups of Manipur during the reign of king Pamheiba, Nando said.
AMESCO president LS Guite recalled the emotional moments when Naga and Kuki women, victimised by ethnic clash, wept together during a Ningol Chakkouba organised by AMESCO in 1992.He said that the basic objective of the campaign is to bring unity among the divided people of Manipur.
The same campaign was organised by AMESCO in Myanmar in 2005, he mentioned.
To mark the campaign kick off, women members of AMESCO presented clothes to the village chiefs, representatives of locals clubs and village authorities belonging to Utonglok, Khamenlok, Thangal Surung, Ikou, S Phailen, Villai and Ikouphai villages.
