Bihu celebrated with traditional fervour

Assamese community residing in the State celebrated Rongali Bihu with great merriment and traditional fervour at Devalaya (Kalibari), Thangal Bazar today.
Organised jointly by Asom Samaj, Manipur and Rainbow, the celebration witnessed hoisting of Bihu flag by Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee Upen Basumatary and three other sessions Shradhanjali, release of souvenir and cultural extravaganza.
In the first session, Dean of Humanities of Manipur University, Prof Nabachandra Singh, former Senior Newsreader of Prashar Bharti, Lal Gopal Singh, Assam University Pro-VC GD Sharma led the gathering in paying floral tributes to Assamese stars Bhupen Hazarika and Dr Indira Goswami.

Citing Manipur's age-old relationship with Assamese community, Lal Gopal Singh who happened to be Bhupen's interviewer gladly remembered his meeting with the Assamese musical maestro in his speech.
Shyam Sunder Singh, a lucky student of Indira Goswami remembered the acclaimed writer as 'cool, docile and motherly guru' .
The second session was graced by Thangmeiband A/C MLA Khumukcham Joy-kishan, Prof H Nandakumar Sharma of Manipur University and RBCC president Upen Basumatary.
Speaking at the joyous occasion, Kh Joykishan observed that harmonious understanding between Manipuris and Assamese would enhance relationship between the two States.
Cultural troupes from Guwahati and Nagaon mesmerised the gathering in the third session.
Local cultural troupes also presented different items during the day long celebration.
