Solving the case related to stabbing an Assam Rifles personnel to death while causing serious injuries to another personnel at Khonghampat area in December last year, Sekmai police have arrested a cadre of the KCP-MC faction.
The arrested cadre has been identified as Angom Ibochouba alias Lanchaiba alias Punshiba (32) s/o Ibomcha of Moirang Khoiru Leikai.
He was arrested by a team of Sekmai police personnel yesterday.
On the night of December 7 last year, three personnel belonging to 5 Assam Rifles were coming together with other passengers in a civil bus from Maram.
The bus was heading to Imphal and the three Assam Rifles personnel have taken leave from duty for going to their respective native place.
Along the way, unidentified armed persons hijacked the bus at Khonghampat area and after singling them out, the three Assam Rifles personnel were attacked.
Of the three personnel, Runkhna Rahman (21) of Andhra Pradesh, who was a Naik in 5 Assam Rifles, succumbed to the injuries at RIMS while his colleague identified as P Makesh, also from Andhra Pradesh, sustained grievous injuries.
But the third personnel managed to escape unhurt.
According to police source, Ibochouba was arrested in connection with the Khonghampat incident.
At the time of his arrest, Ibochouba was under judicial custody in Central Sajiwa Jail and his arrest was effected with the permission of the court.
Ibochouba had been earlier arrested by Bishnupur District Police Commandos along with a woman cadre on March 17 last, while they were trying to abduct the Assistant Project Officer of DRDA Bishnupur.
At that time, Bishnupur District Police Commandos have claimed him to be a cadre of KCP-MC (Nongdrenkhomba/Taibanganba) faction.
Interesting, in June last year, the same Ibochouba was claimed to have been laid down arms and surrendered to the Assam Rifles as a cadre of KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman) faction.
On the other hand, a combined team of Imphal West district police commandos and personnel of 28 Assam Rifles have reportedly arrested an active member of KCP (Malemnganba) group identified as Oinam Arun Singh alias Nanao (30) s/o Oinam Chaoba Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingen from his own house at around 4.15 pm yesterday.
According to a statement issued by Senior SP of Imphal West district, the arrest was carried out acting on a credible information.
On spot verification, Arun disclosed that he is working under the command of one S/S finance officer identified as Anand Singh of Khurai Kongpal for the last one year and he was assigned to collect and transfer money from one place to another under the instruction of Anand Singh, the statement added.
