Imphal, March 14 2011:
Contending that Moirangthem Landhoni who is currently on hunger strike inside Guwahati Central Jail is not an insurgent, the All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj has decided to launch a women's protest movement if Landhoni is not released at the earliest.
At first, Landhoni was arrested by Guwahati Police while visiting her husband, Kh Jiten alias Khamba of the UNLF on August 18 last year.
But she was freed by Court on bail.
However, she was re-arrested by NIA and subsequently legal proceedings were initiated against her.
Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office today, general secretary of the All Manipur Women's Social Reformation and Development Samaj, Th Ramani asked if the NIA was treating Landhoni as an insurgent for her marriage to a UG activist.
If that was the case, then their small kids too must be arrested, Ramani stated while pointing out that Landhoni is lactating mother.
Demanding that Moirangthem Landhoni should be released without any condition at the earliest, Ramani said that intense protest movements would be launched if NIA fails to release Landhoni.
Incidentally, Landhoni has been fasting against the legal proceedings initiated against her by the NIA since March 8 inside Guwahati Central Jail.
As her health condition deteriorated alarmingly, she was taken to a hospital by the jail authorities.
