Imphal, May 13 2013:
Along with declaring all those people who have settled and constructed houses in Sangakpham Keithel and Kabow Leikai areas as encroachers, the State Government dismantled all the houses today, even before the occupants could take out their belongings from their respective houses.
In the eviction process carried out using excavators, the office of NEROCA, a rice hotel, a vehicle workshop, shops and houses have been pulled down.
Denouncing the act of the State Government as inhuman, a lady whose house has been completely destroyed and has nowhere to go, informed Hueiyen Lanpao that personnel of Heingang Police Station came to the village on Friday last and told the villagers to dismantle the houses and shops built on the Government Khasland lying along the eastern side of the Oil pump in Sangakpham Keithel by May 13.They also informed that a zonal water reservoir would be constructed in the area and land acquisition for the process would begin.
If at all they have to carry out the eviction drive, the concerned authority should given us information for at least 5 days ahead of the drive so that the process of taking out the goods from the houses or self dismantling the houses could have been possible, she lamented.
Since there is no places to go, all the people whose houses have been destroyed will have to spend the night by putting up in some make shift tents in the area, she informed.
Meanwhile, RK Dinesh, DC of Imphal East informed Hueiyen Lanpao that the houses, shops and clubs evicted today in Sangakpham bazaar was constructed on Government khasland.
The State Government has already notified to the dwellers a number of times to leave the place.
However, instead of backing away, the settlers filed a case in the court.
And it was on Friday last that a summon order was delivered to the dwellers to evict their houses from the area by May 13 .
