Anganwadi workers and helpers who took part in the protest rally at Delhi organised at national level demanding minimum wages were accorded a warm reception at GM Hall here today.
The function organised under the aegis of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union Manipur was attended by Labour and Employment Minister Ph Parijat, All India Trade Union Congress Manipur president Dr M Nara, vice-president of the All Manipur Nupi Marup S Sakhi and Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union president M Bimola as presidium members.
Speaking at the function, general secretary of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union N Binodini said that 107 Anganwadi workers and helpers from Manipur took part in the national level protest movement staged at New Delhi on February 23 and 24 .
Subsequent upon the protest demonstration, monthly honorarium for Anganwadi workers has been increased from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000.Monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers has also been raised to Rs 1500 .
Ph Parijat observed that the wages given to Anganwadi workers and helpers are too meagre as compared to the works assigned to them.
In addition to looking after children between 0-6 years, Anganwadi workers and helpers have also been taking care of pregnant women, lactating mothers as well as health of kids, he noted.
