Activists of a suspected armed group have abducted a driver from near Yaikongpao village under Kangpokpi police station at around 5.30 pm yesterday.
The driver Brojen, actually hailing from a Thoubal district area but staying at Dimapur along with his wife and children, and the truck (NL0D/2067) was engaged in the transportation of IMFL for the 1st Bn Manipur Rifles canteen.
The abduction is being speculated to be connected to monetary demands.
According to reports, some men fluent in Kuki dialect had stopped the vehicle at Yaikongpao which is about 3 kilometres from Kangpokpi PS, and whisked away Brojen.
a police team led by Officer in-charge of Kangpokpi PS rushed to the spot and managed to rescue Brojen's assistant named as one Md Rahmad Ali (16) s/o Md Rabauddin Ali of Assam's Karbi Anglong region.
The IMFL loaded truck has been escorted back to Imphal from Kangpokpi PS today even though whereabouts of Brojen still remains unknown.
