Two members of the banned Manipur-based Kanglipak Communist Party (KCP), who allegedly kidnapped five government officials for ransom, were arrested in the national capital, police said today.
The arrested were identified as Huidrom Nanao Singh alias Dinesh Singh and Mayengbam Santon Luwang, both members of the military council of the outlawed outfit.
Seven mobile phones, an ATM card, two PAN cards, identity cards and a driving license were recovered from their possession, police said.
Singh was allegedly involved in abduction of five officials of Public Health Engineering Department in Manipur.
He along with Luwang and a member of Kuki Revolutionary Army kidnapped the five officials from Senapati district (Manipur) on November 27 and demanded a ransom of Rs two crore for their release, a police official said.
"After negotiation, a ransom of Rs 70 lakh was paid to them following which the officials were released on December 4," he said, adding that the duo had come to Delhi on November 30 for hiding.
UGs arrested (Imphal): Troops of 17 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) apprehended an active cadre of NNW (PSG) from Namrei in Ukhrul district during a pre-dawn operation today.
In a statement, PRO Assam Rifles identified the arrested cadre as Changeson Lungling (22) s/o Suiza Lungling of Namrei, Ukhrul and said that one 9 mm pistol and two live rounds of 9 amm were recovered from his possesion.
The arrested cadre has been handed over along with the recovered items to the Porompat Police Station, the PRO added.
Meanwhile, our Jiribam correspondent reported that troops of 22 Assam Rifles arrested a drug peddler during frisking operation conducted at the Jiri bridge point bordering Assam.
At least 200 strips of Relipen tablets (pain killers) worth Rs 1 lakh have been seized from the drug peddler who has been identified as Md Amu (23) s/o late Abdul Hakim of Kwakta ward no.7 in Bishnupur district.
The arrested drug peddler has been handed over to Jiri Police Station while the drugs were consigned to flames by the police in the presence of ADC and SDPO, Jiri.
The drugs were bound for Churachandpur.
