Blast kills migrant workers, woman among 18 hurt

Imphal, May 29 2014:
At least two non-local people have been killed besides injuring 18 peo-ple, including a woman, when a powerful bomb exploded at Singjamei Chingamakhong at around 5.10 pm today.
Taking strong exception to the act of killing innocent people, Chief Minister O Ibobi has termed it as dastardly.
According to information culled from the spot, an explosive suspected to be IED went off at the market shed built on the northern side of the road connecting Chinga-makhong to Pishumthong.
People killed and woun-ded were those present in and around the market shed when the bomb exploded.
Out of 10 injured victims taken to RIMS, two have suc-cumbed to injuries.
They have been identified as Arvind Rai (20) s/o Sakaldeep of Moti-pur Bhavanide, Murzafarpur district, Bihar and Shyam Shanker Rai (32) s/o Ram Sanahi Rai of Sahijiwar, Murzafarpur district, Bihar.

Both of them were porters and they were staying at Singjamei in rented rooms.
After visiting the wounded victims at RIMS Hospital, Ibobi said that the bomb blast was a dastardly act which was bestial in character.
The Chief Minister pledged that all those involved in the bomb blast would never be allowed to go scot-free.
To a question, Ibobi said the bomb blast was guided by an intention to attack non-local people.
There was no se- curity lapses.
PHE Minister Irengbam Hemochandra and Industries Minister Govindas Konthou-jam also visited the blast site.
A police team led by Im-phal West SP Dr AK Jhaljit later scanned the blast site.
The market shed used to a congregation point for non-local labourers awaiting people who came to hire labourers for different odd jobs.
Another IED exploded a few footsteps away from today's blast site sometime later.
IED blast on the northern side of the hillock earlier caused many casualties.
Incidentally, there is a post of 40 Assam Rifles atop the hillock.
One Moirangthem Mani-sana (55) w/o Bono of Chin- gamakha Maisnam Leikai is one of the injured victims cur-rently undergoing treatment at RIMS.
She is said to be fish monger.
The other injured victims have been identified as Thongam Bimol (54) s/o Shamu of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai, Chanam Bimol (27) s/o Iboyaima of Ngairangbam Awang Leikai and Thounaojam Shyamkanhai (51) s/o late Babu of Chingamakha Oinam Leikai.
Arun Mahatto (38) s/o Bengal, Sanjay Rai (26) s/o Jugindro, Badhar Rai (32) s/o Gina Rai and Apucha Rai (20) s/o Gulaja belonging to different places of Bihar's Murzafarpur district too sustained injuries.
Five wounded victims were taken to Advance Hospital, two JNIMS and two others to Iboyaima Hospital.
After registering a case at Imphal Police Station, police have launched investigation into the bomb blast, informed a source.
